Dear all,

'Greek Tragedy' is now live for the world to hear on our myspace - www.myspace.com/mariadaines
And I've made it free download so everyone can share it and use it to wake up holiday makers that Greece is not the place to visit until THE ANIMALS HAVE A VOICE!! You will hear this line in the song, lyrics below, we hope it helps all our wonderful friends at GAR to keep many more precious animals safe. Vesna, you and GAR have had such a huge effect on me emotionally since we met first via the internet and then in person. My favourite day of the year is the Greek Animal Rescue Dog Walk :):) So please feel free to use this song to promote your life saving work anywhere you wish to, you have our full permission to add the song on any website and send to whomever you choose, it's yours dear friends and it will be on the next CD in due course.

Lyrics below, love from Maria & Paul with huge admiration for everything you do to make life worth living for our stray and neglected friends xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

'Greek Tragedy' is, as you know, inspired by the editorial written for Lazarus (Lazarakoula) now named Bonnie :) I was reading her story in your summer newsletter on our way to the GAR annual dog walk. As soon as I read the line - 'I was preparing for a funeral' I felt the stirring of a song. By the time we reached Trent Park it was half written in my head and then when we got home I sung it to Paul and he got the guitar out, and here it is, you INSPIRE US!!!! xxxx

We all know that there are many caring Greeks, who work hard to help as many animals as they can and they are to be applauded and thanked for their efforts....... the words in the song are of course not addressed at ALL Greeks, but at those who blatantly ignore animal welfare laws, abuse and neglect animals or simply 'turn the other cheek'..... just as the authorities are doing. I take this opportunity to also include information about a petition to BAN THE SALE OF LETHAL PESTICIDES (in Greece) USED TO POISON STRAY DOGS AND CATS .... see the info at the end of this email.

Greek Tragedy

I was preparing for a funeral
The day we brought you in
We called you Boney Fingers
You were Lazarus, sores and skin
We didn't think you'd make it
So many don't pull through
It's just so hard to take it
The pain of dogs like you

Greece why don't you listen
Are your people cold as stone?
Don't you see the devastation?
Poor creatures skin and bone
Don't you hear the cries of pity
Don't you care how many die?
From shore to land to city
They are killed before your eyes

And people try to save them
But you block their every move
You poison, starve and maim them
Uneducated, cruel
There is no other reason
It's there for all to see
Yet you profit from tourist season
While your dogs hang from the trees

You seem to have no conscience
No mercy, kindness, care
While some pick up the pieces
Greece fails animals by law
It's time to end your ignorance
It's time to become humane
There is no excuse for indifference
While they die in vain

If I had a travel ticket
Well I wouldn't go to Greece
I'd do anything to avoid it
Until the animals have a voice...
